Why coaching?

Coaching is an enabler:
well focused coaching allows an individual or team to deliver extraordinary results.

It is the way of exploring issues that best allows people to find their own way forward, to overcome their internal barriers and to see their situation from a different persepctive.

Coaching builds confidence:
confidence is often lacking in even the most successful leaders and coaching builds resilience in the context of ever faster changing environments.

Coaching helps you consider more than just your team and employees:
myriad stakeholders need to be understood and considered, relationships developed and maintained.

Coaching is underpinned by core principles:
every client has the ability to find the solutions for themselves and is responsible for deciding what actions to take. Within that, coaching offers a broad range of tools to support clients on that journey.

What we offer:

Individual leadership coaching

Successful people often face challenges that they can’t overcome alone. Getting to the next level, however that is defined, requires a real shift in ways of working, ways of thinking or ways of being.

Examples where I coach include:

  • Recent appointment to a new role: need to adapt quickly and effectively
  • Riding the rapids: leading self, team or organisation through turbulent times and change
  • Developing your leadership self: becoming the leader you need to be
  • Preparing for promotion: fast track development
  • What next? Transitioning from a senior corporate role to the next career stage
  • Working across cultures
  • Focus on the blindspots: acting on specific feedback that is limiting effectiveness

Following a successful “chemistry meeting” I work with my clients for an initial period of 6–12 months. Together we identify clear objectives for the programme with desired outcomes – how changes will be noticed in day-to-day work, for example.

The coaching process is structured for you, adapting to your style and your needs.

I provide a safe, confidential environment in which you can share ideas,
voice concerns and play out possible scenarios.

Sessions can be face-to-face, by telephone or video link.

Team coaching

How effectively leadership teams work together, and with their stakeholders, impacts the whole organisation. For a team to be excellent it needs to have alignment, clear focus, trust and collaborative relationships. Team coaching requires a commitment over time and has the power to change your business.

I work with Executive Committees, functional teams and management teams. These are often multicultural and working across wide geographies.

The needs of every team are different and require a detailed diagnostic before embarking on a development process. Programmes range from short interventions to regular work over a few years.

Team coaching assignments include:

  • Articulating aligned purpose for the team and the behaviours and processes that will deliver it
  • Defining strategic priorities
  • Leading through change

Skills development

When managers include some of the basic coaching principles in their work with their teams they can accelerate capability development and improve performance.

Increasingly leaders and their organisations are having to work collaboratively across teams and build alliances with outside agencies or specialists. The ability to have effective conversations that enable genuine understanding, achieve alignment of expectations and overcome barriers to action is an essential skill in this new working environment.

I offer short courses that embed those skills.

With limited theory, clear and simple models the course uses supervised practice and reflection to develop the skills and build the confidence to implement them at work.

A highly successful virtual course is also available that allows client companies to train their people around the world without the travel costs of the traditional course.

About Us

Jane Upton, Good Growth personal and teams coaching Spain

Jane is a well qualified and highly experience leadership coach.  For over 20 years she has supported senior executives, high potential managers and leadership teams in their quest for success (however they define it) and a more rewarding professional life.  Her coaching is built on a successful corporate career, which she considers to be an essential part of her practice.

Jane builds deep relationships with her clients, as a result of her ability to empathize.  The work she does with you will be not only based on sound coaching theory, but also strongly defined by her compassionate understanding of your situation and predicament, however challenging these may be.

Jane has great intuition and resonance, which allow her to let rise to the surface matters that clients did not in the least expect.  These epiphanies may be harrowing or joyous, but they are always effective in moving the subject on to more enlightened behaviour and success.

Her best work is done with those who genuinely wish to make a meaningful change in the way they are as leaders, either individually or in a team context.  She will accompany you as you explore your purpose, find your focus and take the next steps along your professional path.

Jane’s coaching work spans a host of sectors, including FMCG, Media, Professional Services, Telecommunications, Engineering and the charity sector, and while she focuses mainly on CEO’s, senior leaders and top teams, she has also worked with ballerinas and sales stars who wish to optimize their performance.  She trains professional coaches and managers who want to include basic coaching skills in their day-to-day work.

Having chosen an international and cross-cultural route through life, she can work in English and Spanish, one-on-one, or with large teams. Jane creates innovative approaches, and supports their implementation. This she can do with credibility, having worked for over fifteen years in all aspects of HR across the world and in diverse environments.

She is constantly in search of new ways to develop her skills and abilities, participating regularly in ongoing professional development initiatives. She is Head of Standards and Accreditation for the Association for Coaching in Spain and is a trained assessor for accreditation.

She sums it all up by explaining that, after more than twenty years of coaching, she still feels a sense of wonder when her clients discover things for themselves that they never thought possible.

When I decided the time had come to arrange coaching programme for myself, I was determined to work with only the best. Not only did Jane’s expertise and experience meet my initial criteria, but the results she helped me obtain over the course of my programme exceed even my most optimistic expectations.
